Music Together

Today Cienna and I attended a free demo class of Music Together. She absolutely LOVED it. Lead by Ms. Kathy and Ms. Jenn, who was there with her own 6 month old, we sang and danced and wiggled for 45 minutes with 15 other kids and adults.

Music Together is a music and movement class for children birth to kindergarten that is offered at locations all over the country and around the world. When you sign up for a 10-week course you also get CDs of music and a book of all the songs with illustrations. The music is developmentally appropriate for teaching opposites, greetings, movements, weather, colors, numbers, letters, and more. All the songs are accompanied by movements that the kids leran to imitate as they grow.

Cienna was a bit shy at first, just sitting in my lap and observing the musical shenanigans. But 15 minutes into the class she was on her feet wiggling, tip toeing, laughing, clapping, and drumming on the floor with sticks (and she got really excited about going to the middle of the circle to put her sticks away in the box – ah, the simple pleasures of being 14 months old). She loved picking out her shaker and learning how to use a castanet – I think the click, click, click was very satisfying.

Blurry cuz she never stopped moving!

At the end we turned off the lights and hummed quietly to mellow out the mood. Cienna started quietly humming along and the teacher remarked that she was singing right on key! I could not have been more proud 🙂

I’m looking into signing up for a 10-week session now. She really really loved it, and I know she’d get a lot out of taking this class on a weekly basis.
