5 Storybooks That Encourage Music and Singing in Children

Many children start music lessons around age 7 or 8 with a private instructor, in a group class or at school. But with increasing societal pressure to help children “get ahead” in early childhood, parents are looking for ways to start instruction in all subjects earlier than ever.

This is all good, nothing wrong with wanting our children to get ahead. But to be honest, these group classes can be very expensive!! We once tried a music class for our daughter when she was a toddler and it cost $110!! For ONE CHILD. For one child who was NOT EVEN TWO YEARS OLD! That was way too much for a family like ours. At the time we were up to our eyeballs in debt, looking for meaningful work, and trying not to drown in dirty diapers and baby tears. It was overwhelming to even consider going to a class that cost that much.

So what can you do if you want to introduce music to your youngsters in a fun and exploratory way right from home?

Books, that’s how!

Here are a few of my favorite titles. There are so many more books like this, but this list is a perfect place to start:

Musical Tales for Modern Minds series

Freddie The Frog Series

Drum Dream Girl

This is only a small list, but there are so many out there. Do you have a favorite that you’d like to share? Find me on Facebook @TheMusicMommy and let me know!
